Why do we clean our makeup brushes?
This is a question commonly asked, and it's surprising that many people don't know about the amount of dirt and bacteria a makeup brush can hold.
We use our makeup brushes every day, and when we do, they collect makeup, dirt and bacteria within the bristles. Without a clean, we are unknowingly (or knowingly if you chose to skip the clean) putting this bacteria onto our skin which can lead to breakouts. A dirty makeup brush can also affect the way our makeup application looks as the built-up product reduces the effectiveness of the brush and the flawless look we are trying to achieve.
How to clean your makeup brushes
Cleaning your makeup brushes doesn't have to feel like a chore. Our brush cleaning sprays have been designed to have your brushes clean and dry in less than 60 seconds.
Step 1: Purchase the Ryatt Cosmetics Brush Cleaner Spray in your favourite scent (or unscented).
Step 2: Spritz the brush cleaner generously onto your Ryatt Cosmetics Brush Cleaning Towel. You can if you wish spray directly onto the brush, but take care to avoid spraying onto the ferrule (the metal bit that hold the bristles to the handle), and always do this with the bristles pointing downward.
Step 3: Swirl those bristles around in the brush cleaner and watch the magic happen. You may find with more stubborn products and pigments that you need to repeat, or this could mean it's time your brushes had a deep clean.
Step 4: Check that your brushes are dry before use.
Time for a deep clean?
It is recommended that you give your makeup brushes a deep clean every 1 to 2 weeks. We have designed the Perfectly Peach Brush Soap to give your brushes the deep clean they need, and deserve.
Step 1: Wet the bristles of your brush under water. Avoid getting water above the handle as this can cause the glue to loosen over time and will eventually lead to shedding bristles.
Step 2: Gently swirl the brush in circular motions directly into the soap to create a lather. Remove the silicone cleansing mat from the lid and place in the palm of your hand. Using the mat, run the bristles around the lumps and bumps to ensure the entire brush is saturated.
Step 3: Rinse the soap and product out of the brush under running water. Continue to follow steps 1 and 2 until the water runs clear, and make sure the water doesn't touch your brush's handle.
Step 4: Squeeze out any excess water using your fingers, but don't tug too hard. Use this time to form the brushes back to their natural shape.
Step 5: Leave your brushes to dry. Lay your brushes flat overnight and they will be ready for you to use again the following day. It is recommended, if possible, to leave the bristles hanging over the edge for a full 360 degree dry.
